For just a few hours, a few times a month, you can give a child the invaluable gift of your friendship. By simply changing their perspective of what the world can offer, you can literally start changing their lives. Play a board game. Make fun crafts. Play catch. Walk in the park. Attend community events. Just as your options are unlimited, so is your Little's potential.
Community Based mentors must be adults. Big Brother, Big Sister or Big Couple mentors commit to spending a few hours a month, for at least one year, building a relationship and having fun with a youth experiencing activities in the community.
School Based mentors may be high school students [sophomore or junior], college students or adults. The volunteer spends one hour a week from 3:30pm-4:30pm, during the academic year, sharing friendship and activities with the child at the child's elementary school or other designated site.
All prospective volunteers are screened through application, background checks, character references and personal interview. Upon approval, the volunteer will be matched with a child based on personality, common interests, the child's needs and the volunteer's strengths. A professional match support specialist will provide ongoing support throughout the match relationship.
